ATARI Pocket Player Pro

It handles paddle games like Pong flawlessly with the included spinner dial, which feels sturdier than I expected for a handheld this small. The built-in speaker is plenty loud for a quick break, though I mostly use headphones anyway. Perfect little time capsule to carry around.

The screen is bright enough to play Breakout on my commute without squinting, and the buttons have just the right clicky feel. It’s like holding a piece of history that actually works today, and the battery has lasted through three lunch breaks so far.

Pulled it out of the box during lunch and had three rounds of Breakout done before my sandwich was even open—the responsive controls and instant startup make it dangerously easy to keep playing. Battery's held up through a full week of commutes so far, which is more than I can say for my phone.
